Understand what comes with being an employee.

NWM is your employer while you work on assignments. You receive an employment contract, paid holiday and statutory entitlements where the qualifying conditions are met. Eligible employees are enrolled into a workplace pension.

We’ll explain your holiday-pay arrangements, how to request leave and who to contact if you’re unwell or your circumstances change.

How Umbrella pay works

From the rate you’re quoted to the pay you receive.

It’s essential you know what’s going on when it comes to your finances and obligations.

Your assignment rate is the amount paid to NWM by the agency. It funds your pay, NWM’s margin and employment costs, including employer National Insurance and applicable employer pension contributions and levy. Holiday-pay treatment also affects the breakdown.

Your gross pay is then subject to employee deductions such as Income Tax, National Insurance and any applicable pension or student loan deductions. What remains is your take-home pay.

How Umbrella pay works

Your payslip is only the start of the conversation.

We send a text when your payment has been made, and your pay statement is available in your personal portal. We’ll also make a courtesy call after the first week we pay you, then every four weeks while you use NWM. For help with a figure or a change of assignment, contact our team.

It is the amount NWM retains for providing its service. We’ll confirm the margin that applies to your assignment in your personalised illustration before you join.

It is an estimate based on the information and assumptions used. Your actual pay depends on your hours or days, tax code, deductions and individual circumstances.

Talk to us first. We’ll check the arrangements with you and your agency and explain the steps and timing involved.

Check that they use the same assignment rate, working pattern, tax code, pension assumptions and holiday-pay treatment. Compare the margin and any other charges too. Send us your questions and we’ll explain our figures.

Start with your agency, assignment details and quoted rate. We’ll then guide you through the information and checks needed for registration. Your enquiry form is just the first step.

We’ll make a courtesy call after your first week of being paid through NWM, then every four weeks while you use us. You can contact our team between calls for help with your pay or assignment.
